Pond Cleaning 

The purpose for doing a spring clean out is to get rid of the nastiness that has built up from the previous year or years(if it hasn't been cleaned in awhile).  In order to make this happen, the pond will first need to be drained.  We will be placing a pump into the pond to begin the draining process.  The first water removed will be placed into a holding tank where your fish will be kept safe for the duration of the cleaning. The fish will be in good hands here.  Think of it as their home away from home.  The holding tank is equipped with an aerator for oxygen and is spacious enough for them to swim around.  We will transfer the fish with nets from the pond to the holding tank.  Once the holding tank is full, there is usually some excess water to dispose of.  If you would like us to water your surrounding landscape or garden with the rich water form your pond we would be happy to do so.  This water is full of nutrients and will make for excellent fertilizer.
Once the water has been drained, we can begin the cleaning process by removing the leaves and twigs that may have gathered during the off season.  After the debris has been removed, we will clean the rocks.  Moving from the top to the bottom,  we will be rinsing not just the surface, but behind the rocks as well.  This will rid the gunk that has built up.  During this time, we also will check your filters and pumps to ensure that all are working properly.  If maintenance needs to be done, now is the best time. 

When the pond water is clean, we will begin filling your pond back up.  When the pond is nearly full, we will add the proper amount of detoxifier.  Detoxifier will dechlorinate the water and make it safe for returning the fish.  We are always sure to acclimate the fish to your nice clean pond.  By taking out about half the water from their holding tank and adding it to the new water, your fish can adjust to its sparkling new environment.  We wait about ten minutes for the adjustment.   Once they are ready, we return the fish to your clean pond.
